The longer-term project
Small groups that choose each other
A squad is a group of people who choose one another and decide what they want to do together. They might share a workshop, start a project, arrange a home, or buy in bulk. Living together is one option.
I want to build an app that helps these groups get started and keep working together. It starts with a few practical questions.
- Who do you want to work with?
- Find people with compatible interests and a project you want to join.
- How do you learn to trust each other?
- Understand a potential collaborator through what they've done with and for others. Keep the work and its context attached.
- What can you afford together?
- Arrange shared housing, pool purchases and bargain as a group. Agree on who pays, who does the work and how decisions get made.
Each group makes its own culture
Eyedentity is meant to support independent groups. Members choose what matters to them, how they work, and what they want to share. The same tools should be useful to people with very different lives.

I'm forming DreamWake with Max and Clay around music, moving image, design and making. We're looking for a shared base in Brooklyn, with room for our work, workshops and hospitality.

Living with roommates in Brooklyn got me thinking about what makes sharing work. Splitting rent is one part. Finding compatible people, agreeing on responsibilities, and knowing who will follow through are harder to arrange.
I want more people to have access to a good workshop, a place to host friends, and time to make things. Sharing can put those within reach. It also asks more of us than splitting a bill.
The cost of living, ecological limits and isolation are connected problems. I'm interested in what people can do about them at the scale of a household or a neighborhood. Better places to live and work can give us more capacity to look after one another and improve those places in turn.
Eyedentity is the work I want to spend my life on.
